The city of Heide is located in Schleswig-Holstein: right on the A23 between Hamburg and Sylt and near the famous North Sea resort towns of Büsum and St. Peter-Ording. The North Sea is only 20 kilometres away.

Heide is the county seat of the Dithmarschen District and has about 21,000 residents. It is the economic hub of the south west coast of Schleswig-Holstein and acts as a regional supply centre for the immediate area (approx. 36,000 residents) as well as supplying the central area (approx. 70,000 residents). Heide has already started to partially take on the supply functions of a regional metropolis in some fields.
