The website of the West Coast University of Applied Sciences was programmed in compliance with BITV standards. The Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV) refers to the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and applies to all publicly accessible websites of the federal administration. The BITV standards aim to create websites in such a way that people with disabilities can use them without any problems.
The BITV standards include a valid XHTML/HTML5 module for easier and faster display. It also dispenses with outdated structural elements and generates uniform navigation. The new standards ensure that the context of the page does not change unexpectedly, that no unannounced pop-ups appear and that media (such as images and sound) do not play automatically. Furthermore, the content areas of the website are clearly structured, both in the output and in the source text. In addition, the necessary parts of the website are equipped with corresponding title and alt attributes. Furthermore, flickering, color changes or contrast changes are prevented from causing disruptions and, last but not least, the content has sufficient contrast, a variable font size and does not contain any graphics as font replacements.
