Before starting your studies in Germany, it is important to plan the financing of your entire course of study early on and realistically! Scholarships often do not cover all the living expenses for an entire course of study and are only available to a limited extent.

Government subsidies

  • Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz („BAföG“): www.bafög.de
    • International students, EU citizens, migrants, and refugees can also apply for BAföG under certain conditions.
    • here you can see whether you are eligible to apply even without a German passport.
    • Apply as early as possible (processing time approx. 6-8 months)
  • Studienstarthilfe: www.studentenwerk.sh/de/studienstarthilfe
    • The application must be submitted before the start of the course.
    • not older than 25 years
    • Receipt of government benefits before starting university
    • one-time 1000€
